“I’d love to see high school students exposed earlier on to the more advanced things we are actually doing in industry"

Dr. Ben Steil is a research and development scientist at Daicel Arbor Biosciences.

On August 31, 2022, we spoke with Ben Steil about his journey through the world of science and the interests of research and development in industry. He originally thought he would follow in his brothers’ footsteps and get a biology degree, but he decided to go into chemistry instead.

After earning his PhD at the University of Colorado, Ben worked at a nonprofit vaccine company and now at Daicel Arbor, which he describes as a “nice bridge between research and industry.” His work on the TxTL cell-free systems at Arbor includes collaborating with BioBuilder to make cell-free research kits available to high school students around the world.
