Meet BioBuilder Shannon Johnson

Yeah there is no answer book after a certain point – no answer key!”

Shannon Johnson

Shannon Johnson studied biochemistry and molecular biology as an undergrad and is now a PhD student at MIT’s Media Lab engineering new ways to use fluorescence as a biological indicator.

In the conversation on October 30, 2020, we discuss Shannon’s research in the Media Lab at MIT and how the concept of tool making makes an engineer an engineer. She talks about her experience working with the Center for Bits and Atoms out of MIT, which showed her that she wanted to apply to do a PhD to continue this type of work. We also discuss how doing a PhD in STEM opens a lot of doors for people who love doing research and would like to earn a degree.
