Bryan Hirsch is a first-year PhD student at Tufts University, pursuing his PhD in Biomedical Engineering. In our conversation on January 14th, 2023, we talked about pursuing interests to find what you love. Having always been intrigued by both medicine and engineering, Bryan found biomedical engineering to be the perfect amalgamation of his interests.
Going into undergraduate education, Bryan had always had an interest in medicine, but also in building and putting things together, so rather than going into a more general biological or medical fields, which often work more in the theoretical, he decided to bring two of his interests together and do what he loves in biomedical engineering at Hofstra University, as well as working in their ultrasound lab.
For his post-graduate studies, Bryan looked at different labs, programs, and their projects, and found a connection to the work his lab at Tufts is doing, so decided to go straight from his undergraduate studies to the PhD program at Tufts.
As he continues his education and career, Bryan hopes to improve medical imaging technology to create a system that requires lower exposure times, less radiation, and/or improved resolution.
