Associate Professor at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, who studies how gender influences the manifestations of lung inflammation and disease. She is also the Director of the Biobehavioral Lab at the UNC School of Nursing.
In our conversation, Dr. Silveyra talks about her research, the benefits of running a campus center, and her edtucaion in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she earned her Bachelors, Masters and PhD. Her personal reflections include thoughts about bilingual learning, her experience as the first in her family to go to college, how she secured funding for her PhD, and the culture shock of moving to Pennsylvania for her post-doctoral fellowship.
