Drew Endy has served on the US National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB), the Committee on Science, Technology, & Law (CSTL), the Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Board (DIB), and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Synthetic Biology Task Force. He currently serves on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Advisory Committee on Variola Virus Research (i.e., smallpox).
He earned a D in biology at Conestoga High School, a BS Civil Engineering & MS Environmental Engineering from Lehigh University, a PhD Biochemical Engineering from Dartmouth College, and completed fellowships in microbiology at UT Austin, chemical engineering at UW Madison, and post-genomic biology at the Molecular Sciences Institute.
He lives on Stanford’s campus with Christina Smolke, who is better in every way, two boys, one dog, and a cat.
